The Road

Insects sing a melody accompanied: by the sun! The birds come in in harmony. Wind noise joins the fun. Nature plays a symphony, sweeter than we know, This road’s a little shorter every time I go.

Darkness sometimes hides the road Each bend's a mystery deep The only sound a lonesome toad and the plodding of my feet Which pauses when I shift my load you know - This roads a little longer every time I go.

This morning ruts are lined with frost And mud weighs down my shoes. I've time to wonder what is lost ‘tween laughter and the blues And time to mourn the useless cost For all too well I know - This road’s a little older every time I go.
